Alamosa and Sandford July 13th-16th
July 13th, Wednesday: Day 1
We left our house on Tuesday and picked Chris up from work and went and got dinner from Cafe Rio. We ate it in the car and drove to Derics house to split up the drive. It was a perfect half way place to stop, but still a 5 hour drive! On Wednesday, Deric made us a yummy breakfast and then we drove the 5 hours to the house we were going to be staying at for the reunion. After we got settled and everyone else arrived we then went to the Sand dunes! Luckily there was a rainstorm the night before that caused there to be runoff water for the kids to play in...otherwise it would have been way too hot and dry! The kids had so much fun in the water and McKay and Jackson was covered! The attempt to sand board down the dunes was a epic fail...We later found out that you are supposed to wax the bottom of the boards to get them to go down easily! After playing there we drove back to the houses to clean up and on our way back we stopped at the gift shop to get our National Park water bottle sticker and magnet! After cleaning up we then made our way to a alligator park. The kids were so happy they got to hold a little baby alligator! It was fun but reminded me of the Tiger King haha only for Alligators! The last thing we did for the day was go to the swimming pool! Their swimming pools are naturally heated and boy were they hot! Almost too hot for Jackson...Definitely could not stay in it too long without getting over heated but I prefer swimming in hot pools verses cold! The kids had a lot of fun!! We had brought our own dinners to eat there at the pool and from there we went back to the houses to get kids to bed!
July 14th, Thursday: Day 2
In the morning Kerry made everyone a yummy pancake breakfast! We then took our time getting ready for the day and then went on a hike to a waterfall! The original plan was to enjoy the Sanford 24th celebrations but got the days mixed up and missed it yesterday! But we still ended up having a great day!. The kids really enjoyed the little hike and playing in the water. They especially enjoyed throwing rocks into the holding dam. That evening we made our way to Alamosa to have a potluck dinner with Chris's Aunts and Uncles and cousins. Since we had missed all of the fun foot races and such we held our own little races for the kids! Pretty sure my kids won in all of their age groups! haha. They were so cute in making it fun for the kids, they gave the winners a gaterade and some gum! It was fun meeting family that I haven't met before! Kids had a great time even though Caden got destroyed by mosquitos!
July 15th, Friday: Day 3
We got up super early that morning to have our whole family run in the Manassa 5k! This was Caden's first 5k and it was a bit of a struggle but I am so proud of him for doing it and actually fishing by running at the end! Both Catherine and surprisingly I placed in our age groups! Catherine did so well, she ran the whole thing without stopping! After getting the medals from the race we then got our spots for the parade! It was super hot and the kids were pretty disappointed by the amount of candy that was thrown to them, haha which I was ok with however! Then we were able to find a shady spot for eating burgers and enjoying the carnival! We let each kid go on two rides! They thoroughly enjoyed them! Once we had our fill of carnival we then met up in Sanford at the park to have ice cream and celebrate Kaitlin's birthday! It was nice to not have so many people around and relax at the park. Kathy was able to take up to her house that she grew up in and share some memories. We then took off from there to go back to Deric's house to sleep for the night and then left the next morning to go home! We got home Saturday afternoon and it felt so nice to still have time to clean up and unpack before the day was over! Good trip but a bit too much driving for me! Everything that we went to while there was about 30 min to an hour drive one way...Felt like we didn't really get to hang out all together as much as I would have liked but still a fun reunion to see where Kathy grew up!
