April 2018

McKay: 1 month old
  • We had to take him in at 4 days old to check his bilirubin. Everything looked good and he had actually gained one pound from birth weight.
  • At his two week visit we got him circumcised. It was weird doing it a few weeks later and not in the hospital but kind of nice too that he was able to adjust to life a little bit before having that done. They said that he did really well and didn't even cry. Such a relief to finally have that healed.
  • At is 2 week Dr. Appointment he weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces. He has gained over 1 pound from birth weight. Way to go Mckay!!
  • His first couple of days that we got home he had his nights and days mixed up. So we worked hard at waking him up every two hours in the day, but sometimes it was almost impossible to get that boy to wake up. That second night of being home was a long night. He was waking up every two hours to eat. That was my breaking point of nursing because with him wanting to eat so often I was hurting really bad. Nursing is just not for me! I only got 3 hours of sleep that night and Chris got less because he helped out so much! The next night was better once we switched over to formula.
  • We finally got his nights and days fixed but by 1 week old he started becoming super fussy every time he would eat. He would take two swallows and then would need to be burped. He just seemed to be in constant pain like his stomach was hurting him. That night was another horrible night of probably only 3 hours of sleep.  I finally decided to switch bottles and sadly had to go to the store to get in on Sunday night but it was so worth it. He did so much better on the new bottle. He no longer was leaking milk down the side to his neck and he was taking such big gulps anymore. He still at times gets fussy and acts like he is in pain still but it might be something we just have to ride it out.
  • Thank goodness for Grandma Kathy being here otherwise we would not have survived! She has been AWESOME with Caden and Catherine. She is constantly playing with them. She is so kind and patient. And when she isn't playing with them she is cleaning the kitchen, bathroom or some part of the house! We had anxiety about her leaving. But we were pretty lucky to have her for two weeks!
  • After the first two weeks things have finally started getting better. At two and half weeks old  he has gotten into a little routine that is totally manageable. He eats every three hours in the day and is starting to be more awake after each feeding for at least a half hour to an hour. He has his last feeding of the night sometime between 7-8pm and then he goes to sleep for the night. He has been waking up twice at night to eat and goes right back to sleep, usually around 12-2 and then again around 4-5 and then he wakes up around 7-8 and is up for awhile. This really isn't bad at all. I guess I just forgot how rough the first two weeks are for both baby and mom.
  • Looking back on when Catherine was this old, they are very similar in a lot of ways. I have been referring back to her post on many occasions to see what I did.
Catherine absolutely loves the baby. She will go up to him and say "AWW he's so cute, I just Love him"..  She also says that he is her baby! haha I love how much she loves him and constantly wants to help with the baby in any way. She is the binky master. Any time he needs the binky put back in his mouth we tell her to and she loves it! It is quiet nice actually.
Caden loves having a little brother. He doesn't like it when he cries though, makes him nervous when he is holding him and he starts to cry. But he has also been a good helper with him.

First Bath!

Grandpa came and joined grandma for a week. While they were here they all went fishing. I stayed at home with the baby. Caden learned how to cast all by himself.  They also took the kids to the Dinosaur museum and to a lot of other fun places.

Catherine and grandma trying to figure out how to take Catherine potty. haha She got it on her pants.

So glad that Grandma Elaine got to see and hold Mckay. So sweet to see her hold him.

Kids outside just playing bridge.

Catherine loves to talk to her little brother.

Pictures of Caden at school. He Loves school!!!

Mckay and James!! Two weeks apart! Best friends. I think it is funny how you can tell that they both tend to favor having their heads turned a certain way.

Kids really wanted to run through the sprinklers. haha without clothes of coarse.

I love my boys!

Just enjoying the outdoors, nice fresh air!

Catherine really wanted to sit on dad's head for some reason. haha

Mckay's first day of going to church! Such a handsome boy!

I just love our little family!
